The UPS Store Reaches Out To Veterans

The UPS Store has decided to really step up to the plate, and offer military veterans interested in franchise ownership some nice incentives.

Through the IFA’s VetFran program, veterans interested in an opportunity with The UPS Store will receive a $10,000 savings off the $29,950 franchise fee for opening a new franchise location. Additionally, with the new VetFran incentives, veterans will only pay $3,750 of the original $15,000 initial application fee, which is applied to the franchise fee.

SBA Easing Limits On "Goodwill" For Small Business Purchases

Starting in October, the SBA is raising the cap on its guarantee of goodwill financing to $500,000. If the goodwill financing exceeds that amount, the SBA will recommend that lenders consider requiring more equity from the borrower or seller.

New SBA Loan Rules To Affect Veteran Entrepreneurs

                               

           

If you are Veteran, and are thinking about purchasing a business, some new SBA rules may make things a little more difficult, especially if it is an existing business.

According to The Washington Post:

"The agency this month notified banks offering its most popular loan program, that effective March 1, the SBA will limit "goodwill" financing to 50 percent of the loan amount or a maximum of $250,000. The SBA does not directly lend money to small firms, but works with partner banks to offer a variety of loan programs that the agency partially guarantees."

What is "goodwill?"

"Goodwill, sometimes referred to as "blue sky" in the business world, is the value of a business that can't be accounted for through physical things like assets in a warehouse or a printer's printing press. It's the brains and cash flow of a company," according to the article written there. Read.
