If you're being pulled in the, "Be your own boss" direction, it's important that;
A. You actually want to be the boss.
B. You have come up with a checklist to make sure that you won't miss anything in your search for a business that you can someday call your own.
If a franchise business is in your sights, there are several specific things that you must do before embarking on a search for what you feel could be a perfect franchise....
Here they are;
1. Be secretive
This may be difficult to do, but don’t tell your friends, relatives, and old lovers what you’re thinking about doing. This will allow you to start with a clean slate-a clear head.
2. Go deep
Do what's commonly called, "The Ben Franklin." Get out a piece of paper and a pen. Put a line down the middle of the page. On the left side; write down the reasons that you feel you’re ready to become your own boss. On the right-hand side, put down the things that may be cause for concern…now, or at a future time. This little exercise may help put things in perspective. The act of writing it down is really powerful. Try it.
3. You've only just begun. But, as you'll see, the other 18 tips that are laid out nicely in my, "20 Things to Do Before You Buy a Franchise," article are crucial for anyone that's seriously thinking of becoming the owner of a franchise-type of business.
